Boycott the Melbourne Cup

Australia’s ‘race that stops the nation’ is coming up and it is very difficult for people not to be swept away by the surrounding festivities and sense of patriotism that has been attached to the Melbourne Cup. However, behind the glamour lies the suffering of the racing industry. Run not for the benefit of the horses but for profit and reputation, thousands of horses (2 out of 3) become ‘waste’ to the industry because they do not have the ability or injury strikes or they are not manageable under the stress of their first races. Most are gone before they turn three years old.

Please consider boycotting the betting, avoiding the festivities and not adding to the myth that the Melbourne Cup is something to celebrate.
